EBSCO Publishing asked Nucleus to create an educational medical animation depicting coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty procedures to educate the general public.

Solution

Nucleus created a 3D medical animation that depicts coronary angiography and coronary angioplasty procedures. The preoperative condition demonstrates narrowing of the coronary arterial lumen due to atherosclerotic plaque buildup, which blocks blood flow. Coronary angiography is performed to find the exact location of the blockage. During this procedure, contrast dye is injected into the arteries of the heart. The dye allows a fluoroscope to take x-ray images, called angiograms, of the interior of the arteries, which will show the location of the blockage. Coronary angioplasty is then performed to reestablish blood flow through the artery. During this procedure, a small balloon is inserted into the artery, then rapidly inflated and deflated to widen the opening inside the artery.
